After Sunday’s Day 1 Week 3 slight failure, I was determined to turn things around tonight and complete the workout. Yet again (will I ever learn?), I went for a run before performing the push ups, but don’t think it had an adverse effect on my performance.
Here we go then…
Required: 27, 19, 19, 15, at least 25
I rattled off the 27 quite easily and thought “yeah, this is my night!”, before taking advantage of the full 90 seconds rest and going for the 19. Why they were so difficult I’m not sure, but after getting to 10 I struggled a bit. Hmmmmm. 90 seconds later, and everything seemed good again – no problems getting to 17 and then the last 2 were quite comfortable too.
So, *just* 15 and at least 25 to go; “I can do this” I thought. The 15 were fine, but yet again I failed on the last set. Actually I thought everything was going to be good and breezed my way through the first 15. I stuttered to 18, paused for 5 or 6 seconds, eeked out number 19 and that was it; game over.
Actual: 27, 19, 19, 15, 20
All in all, not a bad effort; 100 push ups in total and 9 more than a couple of days ago, but still not good enough to get through the workout. Day 3 is definitely the toughest of the week, so it looks like I’ll be on Week 3 again next week. Getting stronger though….
Before I sign off, just a quick mention of how successful the Hundred Push Ups web site has been. “Launched” on June 9th, the site has had almost one and a quarter million page loads, and over 400,000 unique visitors. Pretty amazing really considering it was just intended as a “get something out there” site for a few of my loyal blog readers. Thanks everyone for your support!
I love how what youve created has TAKEN OFF!
thanks for doing it.
from all of us.
Maybe I’ll start looking for a publisher. Think a book would be successful?
🙂
A book needs more of a hook. Maybe a fictional account of a man whose dreams have failed and who only recovers by training himself up to doing 100 pushups — interspersed with his reflections (triggered during the stress of his workouts and in the successive calms) and syrupy nuggets of wisdom. THAT would sell.
Oh, and the program! Though I tested into column 3, I did Week 3 Day 1 Column 2. It went surprisingly well. I had to flub my way through the last few on the failure set, but I took a 2 minute break and did a bonus set of 11. I might repeat Week 3 but I think it’s going to be rewarded with some good gains.
I can’t wait to see what kind of feedback you get by the end of July!
