Luckily (I think), I’m following column 2 for the sixth week of the Hundred Push Ups challenge. My usual late afternoon dilemma was run first/push ups later or push ups first/run later; I chose the latter despite the possibility of storms moving into the area which could jeopardize today’s fartlek workout. In case you missed the definition, fartlek is Swedish for “speed play” – check out WikiPedia for a great explanation.
Anyway, back to the push ups.
Required: 25, 25, 22, 22, 22, 22, 18, 18, at least 50 with 45 seconds between sets
Looks rather ominous doesn’t it?
Here’s what I managed:
Actual: 25, 25, 22, 22, 22, 22, 18, 18, 50!
Success! Despite a lousy Week 6 Day 1, I was really determined to do well tonight. I must admit I rushed the first couple of 25’s but slowed it down some for the next 4 sets of 22, careful to take the prescribed 45 seconds between each effort.
The pair of 18’s offered a brief respite to my aching arms, but in the back of my mind all I could think of was the big 50! Well, one minute and a glass of ice cold water later, I was in position and ready to go. At around 25 I started to struggle, got to 30 with a straight 5 in a row, but then started to suffer. I literally gutted out the remaining 20 push ups one by agonizing one until I reached the magic 50 and my arms gave way.
A rare taste of success and a staggering 224 push ups in total for the night!
Great stuff!
Wow, great job! I am truly impressed! Especially considering that you did 224 pushups in all, with only 50 seconds rest between sets! Amazing feat!
Can you believe you only have one more workout & then it’s the final test. Wow-o-wow-o-wow, you’re almost there! Fantastic!
Oops, that’d be 45 seconds between sets. Please pardon the typo!
Thanks! I should probably the week because of failing Day 1….we’ll see…
Nice work. Weeks 5 and 6 certainly are daunting.
