One Hundred Push Ups: Week 1 Is Officially Over!

Only a four mile run tonight, so felt quite fresh going into Day 3 of Week 1 of the Push Ups Plan.

Required: 15, 13, 10, 10, at least 15

Actual: 15 (felt good), 13 (felt good), 10 (easy does it), 10 (getting harder), maxed out at 21 with shaky arms and sore chest.

In all honesty, I found Day 2 to be more difficult than today. Once I’d got past the middle 10 I knew I’d be okay and pressed on to the final set with full confidence. In my opinion I think rhythmic breathing is key to success. I found I was almost holding my breath during Day 2’s workout but tonight forced myself to “deliberately” inhale/exhale – it must have sounded weird, but it had the desired result.

So, Week 1 is well and truly under my belt. Day 2 of Week 2 looks relatively easy, but I’m not fooled – it gets tougher!

Hope you’re all enjoying the program and finding your strength has already increased. Feel free to leave comments/links detailing your progress…

  1. yeah yeah, just go ahead and brag about easy it all is for you….. haha

day 2 was really hard for me but you know what? i’m sure i was holding my breath. tonight i will force myself to breathe and maybe it will easier for me too!

  2. Eric: relax a little…

Jill: nice to have the first week over and done with eh? Enjoy the couple of rest days!

Laura: easy? not a chance. i’ve done this before remember, and I can tell you it’s not any easier the second time around.

Carmen: small world! your URL has too many e’s – i’ll fix it in a minute.

Everyone kKeep up the good work…

  3. Steve,

I’m confused. hundredpushups.com is your site. How do you know the system works and is safe if you, yourself, are just now doing it?

    How was the program developed?

    John

P.S. I didn’t see a privacy statement. Are you going to sell my email address? Just curious.

  4. Hey John,

I followed the very same plan last June (2007) and completed the hundred of 7 weeks. I tried again earlier this year, but wimped out after 4 weeks, but that’s another story…

No, I won’t be selling your email address, but adding a privacy statement is a great idea.

Great questions – thanks! And good luck with the challenge if you’re taking it!

  5. Steve,

Wow. That was a quick response. Thanks.

Still wondering how the system was developed.

Every site I checked on the Challenge List are of people on their first week. Can’t find anyone who has completed the program.

I’m game and willing to give it a try, but get the feeling this was fabricated on a whim.

Don’t mean to sound cranky. It’s such a good idea and seems to be spreading quickly. And any 41-year-old who can crank out an 11:35 two-mile has my respect. Still . . . .

    John

  6. Hi John,

    Just sent you an email…

BTW, my two-mile time isn’t that impressive. My marathon endurance is much better than my speed 🙂

Oh yeah, I added a basic privacy notice to the “Challenge” page – thanks for the idea!

  7. Steve,

    Thanks for your email.

I’m on board. I have a daughter and son who will certainly want to take this challenge, too.

Funny — after I sent that last email, I glanced down the list and saw your marathon time and thought, “I should have mentioned that instead of the two-mile.” Ha.

    John

  8. Hey Steve
Just started Week 2, Day 1. A good start, but like you, I’m not fooled. Breathing is important as is being determined on a final goal at the start. I like the angry music suggestion from Aaron too.
    🙂
