Meet The Squirrel’s Nut Butter Family

Squirrel’s Nut Butter is a multi purpose salve that works extremely well for preventing chafing and preventing blisters on feet, as well as skin restoration on eczema, cracked/dry hands, feet, and face. There’s nothing worse during a run than painful chafing – thighs, armpits, feet.. the list goes on.

Thanks to the power of social media I stumbled upon Squirrel’s Nut Butter towards the end of last year, after seeing super-talented ultrarunners Kaci Lickteig and Mike Wardian tweet about it. To test out the product, my first order comprised of a 2.7 oz stick and 0.5 oz tin. SNB worked fantastically and now it’s been my go-to anti-chafe product for all long runs and races. It’s easy to apply (either from the stick, tin or tub), and lasts forever, although I do typically carry a small 0.5 oz stick in my shorts pocket just in case any hot spots start to develop mid-run or race.

Squirrel’s Nut Butter All Natural Anti Chafe Salve, Tub, 2 oz

$14.99 ($7.50 / Ounce)

Squirrel’s Nut Butter is the brainchild of Chris and Stacy Thornley out of their home in Flagstaff, Arizona. Stacy first developed the natural salve in hopes of healing her daughter Sariah’s eczema, but after seeing how much the salve helped Sariah, Stacy decided to share her new creation with friends and family. The rest, as they say, is history.

Squirrel’s Nut Butter Ingredients

The All Natural ingredients include:

  • Coconut oil
  • Cocoa butter
  • Beeswax
  • Vitamin E oil
  • Essential oils

What is the best Squirrel’s Nut Butter container for different temperatures?

Squirrel’s Nut Butter is ALL NATURAL and “feels” the temperature changes. The salve becomes rather hard at temps below 50°F and softer at temps above 85°F. With that in mind, if you are racing/training in cool/cold weather, we suggest using the Squirrel’s Nut Butter Sticks. If kept out of the direct sunlight, the Squirrel’s Nut Butter Sticks will be the best choice for application from below freezing up to around 100°F.

Squirrel’s Nut Butter Tins are best if used in the temperature range of 60-90°F. If you are using the tins below 60°F then you can keep the product soft by storing the tin in a pocket next to your warm body. You can also just use the back of your fingernail to break the product up. The Squirrel’s Nut Butter Double Wall Tub is designed to act as a little thermos to protect the salve from extreme heat. You can use the tub in temps up to 120°F if you keep it out of the direct sunlight. Another neat thing about the tub is when used in cold weather, you can simply take the top off, squeeze the sides together and pop the SNB puck into your hand to use it like a bar of soap where needed.
