The wait is finally over as today I finally received word of my official 2009 London Marathon rejection. The email from Race Director Dave Bedford was short and straight to the point:
We regret that we have to advise you that your application to run in the 2009 Flora London Marathon has not been successful due to massive over-subscription.
Easy as that…but at least now I can start thinking about other plans for the 2009 marathon season.
Did anyone else get in using the Overseas Ballot? Seems like the running forums are flooded with people who didn’t get in, but I haven’t read one message from someone who was actually accepted. Good luck to you all….
Wow Steve, they will miss out on a great marathoner!
What’s your 2009 marathon options?
Are you running Fleet Week Half?
Happy training,
Charlie
Ah, they won’t miss me!
Lots of options for 2009. Ideally I’d like to do 2 in the Spring and 2 in the Fall. We’ll see.
No Fleet Week this year. Going to Fredericksburg to run the Stonewall Jackson 20 Miler on Saturday. Figured the 20 would be more beneficial.
Hope things are progressing nicely for you,
–Steve
That’s a shame – sorry you didn’t get in. I wonder if it’s easier to get in via the overseas or domestic ballot.
If I were smart I would have taken advantage of the “good for age” rule and the fact I’m still a member of a running club in Wales.
That’s the second time I’ve been rejected as an overseas entrant to go with the four or five rejections when I was living in the UK.
Seems like most of the slots are taken up by charity runners nowadays….(nothing wrong with that before the email floodgates open…)
–Steve
Sorry to hear that… I guess you’ll just have to tear up another race.
yeah, easy come, easy go. i’ll find a few cheaper options i’m sure. maybe i’ll return to Boston – haven’t been there since 2000.
we’ll see..
