Had a nice surprise package in the mail last night – a 4th place age group award for the 30th Anniversary Richmond Marathon which I ran last month. After studying the results after the race, I knew I’d placed 4th in the 40-44 age group, and was a little mad at myself for being passed somewhere in the last 6 miles to lose my 3rd place slot.
I didn’t even check how deep the awards would go and assumed it would be top 3 in each group like most races, so receiving the package was a very welcome and unexpected surprise. Maybe Christmas has come early for me this year?
The award is a very cool, wooden “medal” with the Richmond Marathon logo, race name and my details burned into the wood. In true Richmond Marathon fashion, it’s attached to a striking orange ribbon.
I just checked the marathon web site and for the record “Additional awards will be presented to the top five in all age groups in all races”….lucky me!
Congratulations Steve!
Cool award!
Got my certificate yesterday.
Congrats to you too! I actually thought it was my Cape Henry 10 Miler award – still haven’t received that one….
Congratulations steve, its my first time here. I’m looking forward to running my first 5k, I’ve got a long way to go to my first marathon but I’m determined to go do it. I’ll definately be a regular here
Abimars – thanks for the comment!
That’s exactly how my wife started in the late 90’s. Trained for her first 5k, then it was a 10k before building up to her first marathon a couple of years later.
Keep the training fun, stay focused on the long term goal and try to be consistent.
Good luck and let me know if you have any questions…
Happy Holidays!
–Steve
Congrats, Steve! That’s such a cool & innovative-looking medal. It must feel great to add it your collection!
The photo doesn’t really do the medal justice to be honest, but it was great to receive and is a wonderful memento from my 20th marathon.
