Looking forward to tomorrow’s 20k at Fort Story Army Base, Virginia Beach. I’ve taken part in the event six times since 1999 and am looking forward to testing my current fitness over a slightly longer race distance.
The 20k is part of a three race series designed as a “Tune-Up” to the Shamrock Marathon in March. The other two races are a 25k and 30k spread a few weeks apart.
My previous times are listed below with my best effort coming two years ago when I was arguably in the best shape of my running career.
1999 – 1:19:59
2001 – 1:25:06
2002 – 1:20:13
2006 – 1:20:41
2007 – 1:17:27
2008 – 1:19:53
We’ll see what tomorrow brings. Watch this space for an update…
Good luck at your 20k at Fort Story Army Base tomorrow!! Can’t wait to find out how you do! 🙂
Sounds like a good marathon build-up series. Good luck with the 20k and look forward to reading about it.
Happy New Year.
Steve
I stumbled on this page while looking at the Tidewater Striders on line. We are all now settled in Australia but still look back fondly on our time in VB. I hope that you have a great season and continue to run fast.
Triple S – great to hear from you! Funny, I was thinking about you today as I started the second 10k loop. We had some good battles at Fort Story didn’t we?
Managed to run a new PR (1:16:19) and will write a brief race report tomorrow. Hope it bodes well for Shamrock…
Glad you’re all settled in Australia and enjoying the summer!

Awesome PR Steve! Way to go!
