The World Media Run is a 5k race taking place on Friday, February 22nd at the FOLIO: Publishing Summit in Miami, Florida. If you’re not going to be in Miami for the Publishing Summit (I won’t) and you don’t live anywhere close to Miami in Florida (I don’t), you can still take part in the event anywhere in the world during the weekend of 2/22 – 2//24. The World Media Run is allowing virtual runners and racers to compete in the race, and results from all locales will be co-mingled online immediately after the weekend.
I think the idea behind the World Media Run is a great one:
1. A portion of all proceeds will be donated to Special Olympics – an international nonprofit organization “dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities to become physically fit, productive and respected members of society through sports training and competition”.
2. It’s aimed at magazine, television, radio and web professionals – like me 🙂
3. All participants receive a fashionable tech shirt with two-color World Media Run logo – you can never have too many cool tech shirts!
4. It’s another 5k race…
If you’re attending the FOLIO Pushing Summit on February 22nd you may participate in the World Media Run for free. If you’d like to run your own virtual race, it’s not too late to sign up at active.com and you can even get a World Media Run badge for your blog or web site, similar to the one on the right side of this post.
Thanks to Eric of the Stubborn Running blog for posting about the World Media Run and spreading the word about the event. I’m sure my 5k “race” will be a lonely one on Friday morning, and I know for a fact it won’t be fast. With an 8k cross country race on Saturday and a half marathon on Sunday I won’t want to expend too much energy, but it will be nice to know I’m running for a great cause and a part of a unique race.
Good luck to everyone. Can’t wait to receive my tech shirt and check out the results after the race….
Very cool.. Good luck with your time, despite the fact you’ll be fatigued. Thanks for signing up!
I shouldn’t be fatigued on Friday, but I know I will be on Sunday.
Good luck in yours too. Judging by your training times, you’ll be flying too.
