2 Week Catch-Up

34 miles in 2 weeks is not much to write home about, but with a busy 7 days on vacation in the UK, the plan was always to enjoy some down time and prep the legs for the beginning of a tough training cycle. Looking to the future, my big goal is still 28 weeks away, but with several key races lined up in the fall/winter, it’s time to start assessing my current level of fitness before ramping things up.

Two years ago I made a similar trip to the UK, didn’t run much (although I did log my fastest ever 5k) and enjoyed some great family time in Scotland and Wales. On the long flight home I remember planning and plotting a fairly aggressive training plan for the months leading up to several fall races. For the most part, the races went well and the training paid off. Good times!

Two years later, however, and I’m not sure the same aggression will work. Training paces are down and recovery time is on the up. I guess knocking on 46 years old will do that to you. I’m not ready to give up the ghost completely though – I still have big personal goals and feel like my best is yet to come. Ambitious? Perhaps. But I’m going to have fun trying!

  1. Age and longer recovery times catch up to all of us. As we age we need to use the experience and wisdom we have gained to train smarter, to be ready for the races we want to focus on.
