Well, here we go with 2019 – race sign ups, ambitious goals, and continued support from some fantastic companies – Tailwind Nutrition, Topo Athletic, Injinji, Squirrel’s Nut Butter and Christopher Bean Coffee. The only slight drawback at the moment is a nagging knee issue which means zero running miles since the Seashore Nature Trail 50K on December 15th.
Thankfully the knee situation is slowly improving. I was able to walk just over 30 miles last week with minimal discomfort, and each day feeling slightly better than the previous. I’m hopeful of at least a short test run pretty soon, but want to make sure there’s absolutely zero walking pain before I try.
- Mon – 1.8 miles
- Tue – 4.2 miles
- Wed – 2 miles/1.7 miles (745 ft gain)
- Thu – 2.1 miles/1.6 miles (763 ft gain)
- Fri – 2.5 miles/2.2 miles (1,000 ft gain)
- Sat – 6.1 miles
- Sun – 6.0 miles
As for recovery, I’ve been icing every couple of hours, and spending time in the Recovery Pumps at night to help flush out any lingering inflammation. In conjunction with the somewhat messy CryoCup, the Freeze Sleeve has been really useful in keeping pain and inflammation to a minimum. The revolutionary cold therapy and compression sleeve slips on easily and provides instant relief. The sleeve is available in 6 different sizes – small enough for the wrist, yet large enough to fit the hamstring and quad. Recommended!
