6 Minute Repeats And The End Of Strendurance Level A

A moderate 52 minute run tonight. With a possible (probable) 5k race to run on Saturday, I didn’t want to do anything too strenuous this evening, but at the same time I also wanted to add some quality to the workout. I ended up jogging for 10 minutes as a warm up before running 5 x 6 minute intervals at a brisk, but sustainable pace, before finishing of with 6 or 7 minutes of easy running as a cool down.

The repeats actually felt quite good and it was nice to concentrate on my form and think positive thoughts about my running style and current level of fitness. Tonight’s 6 miles takes me to just over 20 for the week with 3 days (and at least one 20 miler) left to run, and over 200 miles for the month of February – a figure I haven’t reached since February of last year! The best thing of all – my legs feel good and there’s no sign of any injury or major fatigue. Let’s hope I feel the same after Saturday’s 5k and Sunday’s 20+ miler….

To follow on from the 6 mile run, I decided tonight would be a good night to finish off Level A of the Strendurance Strength/Endurance plan. This was the fifth attempt at the Level A workout, and it’s now time to move on to Level B for the next two weeks. Pity really, tonight I felt like I’d finally mastered Level A and performed it to an acceptable level. I’m sure Level B will be a major challenge when I decide to tackle it for the first time in a few days time.

By the way, I’m really happy with my new Adidas Supernova Cushion 7’s – a great shoe that’s giving me all the support, cushioning and performance I could wish for. Thanks to Running Etc. for hooking me up with the Supernovas! To coin their words, my feet are “happy feet” at the moment…
