No run today. Upper thigh isn’t quite 100%, so decided to rest up and see what tomorrow brings. No point stressing the system for the sake of a few miles.
So, instead of a training run post, how about some Cayman Islands Marathon history? Over the years quite a few people have asked how a Welsh guy living in Virginia ended up running the Cayman Islands Marathon. Way back in October 2008 at the Cayman Islands Breeze Fusion 2-Miler, I was interviewed by one of the local journalists who asked if I’d be running the marathon the following month. Two trips to the Caribbean in 5 weeks would have been a bit of a stretch, but somewhat jokingly, I did agree to come back one day.

Fast forward just over a year, and I did indeed return to Grand Cayman to run the marathon. It turned out to be a wonderful experience and a really special moment in my running “career”. I enjoyed the race so much I’ve returned every year since, and amazingly the 2017 event will be my 9th consecutive running of the Cayman Islands Marathon.
