After yesterday’s steady seven mile run which I hoped would be a good recovery run, I decided to mix things up a bit and do something of a hill workout today.
After work, with temperatures in the 70’s, I headed to Mount Trashmore, one of only a few places in Virginia Beach that features any kind of “hill”. I’d hoped to run several repeats up the steep side of the main hill with a nice gentle recovery down the other side.
However, there were (a) far too many people out and about enjoying the balmy February weather and (b) my legs were really heavy for some reason and weren’t too keen on cooperating today. I can only guess that the accumulation of the half marathon and tempo run last weekend had caught up with me.
In the end I ran several random loops around the lake, and incorporated several hill repeats, stair climbs and ridge runs as planned. The workout wasn’t a total disaster, but I only managed 5 miles in just under 39 minutes and didn’t feel great for any of it. The blustery wind was also annoying and in the end I was glad to be done.
Maybe my body is trying to tell me something??
To add insult to injury, the traffic was horrendous on the way home – a journey that should only take 10-15 minutes took at least 45 minutes! Maybe I’ll just run on the treadmill tomorrow? 🙂
On a positive note, later in the evening I completed the first workout of Week 4 in the 100 Push Ups plan and the fifth workout of Week 6 in the Essential Abs Program. Actually, there’s only one more Essential Abs workout before the plan. I really need to find some sort of maintenance program to keep up the good work 🙂
Steve, do you ever rest? just checking
Haha! Not much, but my old body is telling me I should be…
Seriously, I’m running six days a week at the moment and take Friday as a “rest/recovery day”.
Last year I tried a marathon plan where I ran only 3 days a week (which was actually quite successful considering the lack of mileage).
In 2006, I ran every day – had some kind of running streak going on.
Nice comment!
