Just went through the motions tonight and ran for about 40 minutes on the treadmill. Yet again it was too smoky outside for a comfortable run and I didn’t want to wait for the winds to change as per the weather forecast.
After a quick 5 minute warm-up, I alternated 5 minutes at a fast pace and gentle incline (1% grade) with 5 minutes at a slower pace and steeper incline (5-7%). Time went relatively quickly and before I knew it I was cooling down and taking a rare 5 minutes to stretch. With the start of my 20-week marathon plan just one week away, I know I should incorporate more stretching into my daily routine; it’s just one of those things I usually skip through and take for granted.
Nothing else to do tonight, so apologies for the short post….
I know you’d probably rather run outside, but it sounds like a decent workout. I hope the smoke clears soon – and best wishes for a good marathon training season.
Hi Steve
Congrats on investing the $150 because I think you are going to get that sub 2:50. And I wish I was going to be there to see it. I am always so impressed with your dedication and hope that it pays off for you. Like you, I am not getting any younger either (just turned 40) and know that I have a limited time to go sub 2:50. But I’ve got a lot farther to go than you do. I am aiming for 2:55 at the Air Force marathon in September and will take it from there. The one thing that may help me is I’ve only been running seriously since fall ’04.
Best of luck and I will want to know how it goes with Greg’s program.
