It would appear I’ve slipped into non-blogging mode again for the last month or so, which means it’s probably time for an update before I lose all my followers. Training has been steady, but nothing earth-shattering, and with the end of January almost upon us, I now find myself staring down another big race in Texas – my 3rd running of the Rocky Raccoon 100.
Amazingly, my last post was a recap of the 2014 Cayman Islands Marathon which took place almost 8 weeks ago. Here’s a summary of my training since then:
December 8th – just over 40 miles for the week with a half marathon distance training run at 6:37/mile pace.
December 15th – 70 miles for the week, including my 6th running of the Seashore Nature Trail 50K where I managed to finish 2nd overall in a time of 3:42:27 and pick up an RRCA 50K Masters State Champion award.
December 22nd – 71 miles for the week with a couple of back-to-back 20 milers on the weekend.
December 29th – my first 100 mile week in forever, including a couple of mid-week 16 milers and weekend miles of 15 and 25 respectively.
January 5th – a busy week at work translated to a drop in total weekly mileage (86). My goal was another 100, but at least I was able to round off the week with a confidence-boosting Saturday 10 mile race (59:19) and a 31 mile Sunday effort.
January 12th – 44 miles for the week with a trip to Las Vegas officially kicking off the start of the taper.
January 19th – 32 running miles for the week, but tons of walking miles up and down Las Vegas Boulevard.
January 26th – not much running; just keeping things ticking over this week.
Compared to January 2014, my mileage is way down this year, so to be honest I’m really not sure how things will play out on race day. As always, my plan is to start off fairly conservatively, run my own race, then see what happens as the day progresses. I do know the Men’s field is pretty stacked again – a quick glance of the entrants list revealed a host of talented and experienced guys such as Ian Sharman, Paul Terranova, Peter Hogg, Joshua Finger, Scott Dunlap, Nathan Leehman, James Elson and Jean Pommier to name just a few. There’s plenty of talent in the women’s race as well, with Nicole Studer, Liza Howard and Shaheen Sattar all toeing the line.
In other news, I’m really looking forward to representing Team Injinji in 2015. It’s been almost a year since I switched exclusively to their performance toesocks, and in all honesty, my feet have never been happier. Be sure to check out their products and feel free to let me know if you have any questions. Finally, if you’re looking for product ideas, take a look at my quick-and-dirty review of my 4 favorite Injinji socks.
Well, that’s about all the news for this post. I’m looking forward to getting started at Rocky on Saturday morning, so be sure to check for a race recap once I’ve recovered and settled back into a routine. If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, UltraSportsLive.Tv will be covering the event and live results should be posted online too. Happy miles!
