October Update

After the Cardiff parkrun on Saturday and a full day of travel from the UK on Sunday, it felt good to get back at it with some easy end-of-the-month miles. I closed out September with 245 miles – a nice step-down from August and a good platform to build from in October. Here’s how the month panned out:

September 28th – October 4th [58 miles]
First week post-vacation, so mainly MAF running to keep things easy, with a couple of 5 mile treadmill incline efforts and a swift 10 miler to cap off the week.

October 5th – October 11th [76 miles]
Bit of a mixed bag, but a nice increase in mileage making sure I didn’t overtax the legs. Again, lots of MAF miles, a nice weekend 10 miler at 6:37/mile pace and an easy/steady 16 miler to test out shoes and nutrition for the fast-approaching 24 The Hard Way.

October 12th – October 18th [73 miles]
Another 70+ mile week with some tire dragging, MAF miles, treadmill incline work and easy-paced 10 miler to round off the week. Time to taper!

October 19th – October 25th [154 miles]
One last Monday tire dragging session and 4 easy sessions to keep things ticking over before the race. Friday was a travel day to Oklahoma, then the weekend was all about the 2015 24 The Hard Way where I managed to set a new PR with 135.5 miles. My race recap is posted here if you’re interested.

Next up is the Cayman Islands Marathon at the beginning of December, so it’s almost time to attempt the transition from Ultra runner to Marathon runner. Wish me luck!
