Recovery Run, New Shoes & Strendurance

Adidas Supernova Cushion 7Just ran an easy 4 miles tonight in the new shoes I picked up on the weekend. The Adidas Supernova Cushion 7’s are extremely cushioned and felt great right out of the box. Remember the days of having to break in a new pair of shoes for 50-60 miles? I certainly do. The Supernova 7’s feature a lightweight and comfortable mesh upper, TorsionĀ® System which creates stability and control and provides midfoot support and adiPRENEĀ® Heel Technology.

I used to exclusively wear Brooks shoes, but after a change in their Radius model a couple of years ago and a couple of tryouts with their Glycerin model, I’m currently settled on Adidas for my mid to long training runs. Nice to have a new pair of shoes to throw into the mix – some of my older ones are approaching the 400 mile mark and will soon be ready for yard work or maybe the local Running Store for recycling.

Anyway, the run was quite uneventful to be honest. First mile was comfortable but felt a little wooden on sore quads, but I soon loosened up and unintentionally picked up the pace. Before I knew it I was making a u-turn and heading back to the house to complete a 4 mile circuit and finish with a sub 7 minute mile.

After taking time to rehydrate, I decided to carry out my 4th Strendurance Level A workout in almost 2 weeks. Actually it felt easier than the previous three attempts, so maybe I’m getting stronger? I think I’ll do one more “A” workout before moving up to the next level and follow Coach Troy’s advice – he recommends performing each level 4 or 6 times in a 2 week period, so if I make it 5 I’ll be happy and ready to move forward. Nice to keep the strength work going and I hope it helps come Marathon Day!
