Smoke-Free Treadmill Run

smoke.jpgThe heat was crazy again today with the digital thermometer in my MINI reading 99°F on the way home! It was quite an easy decision to run inside on the treadmill tonight and not just because of the outside temperature. The air quality is also really bad as we’re smelling the smoke from the North Carolina wildfire which has grown to 40,195 acres (nearly 63 square miles).

Luckily for us the winds will shift overnight and the smoke should start migrating south by the morning, but the bad news is the wildfire is still only 40 percent contained at the moment, with 20 miles of containment lines still needing to be built or improved.

Anyway, not a very exciting run to report – just 4 miles at varying speeds and inclines. Better than nothing I suppose and at least I was able to follow up the run with some abs exercises and push ups.

How was the weather for everyone else today?

  1. Steve, It’s amazing how things can change in a day. We had lots of smoke and ash from that fire along with the 100+ heat yesterday and today it was clear and a balmy 84 with a cool breeze when I got home. I’m sure you made good use of this great weather.

  2. Hi Charlie,

It is totally amazing. Last night was horrible (and I’m sure it’s much more horrible for the people in North Carolina), but today was a wonderful afternoon for a run.

Hope you had a good swim and/or other workout,

    –Steve
