No MotionBased activity for you to look at tonight. For some reason I couldn’t get a lock on any of the satellites and just used my Garmin 305 as an expensive stopwatch instead. My only goal tonight was to run just over 4 miles which would bring my total mileage for the week up to 42 – a textbook 10% increase on the previous week.
What should have been an easy run was anything but easy. My legs were stiff and sore from yesterday’s 25k and my left ear was still hurting more than I’d like. I have to be honest, I’ve felt better after running a marathon than I did out there tonight. Each step reminded me how much training I still need to do before the Shamrock Marathon in seven weeks time. Incidentally, if you’re thinking of running one of the Shamrock races (8k, half marathon or full marathon), don’t wait another minute as the entry fees increase on January 31st!
The 4.1 miles weren’t that enjoyable, but it was a nice feeling to arrive back at the house safe in the knowledge that I’d logged over 40 miles for the first time in quite a while. Also, my monthly mileage is the highest it’s been since February 2007 – maybe that’s why I feel so bad?!
I also realized while out on the run, that due to my bad ear I’d missed Friday’s Essential Abs workout. I guessed being a couple of days late wouldn’t make a huge difference to the plan, so I went ahead and completed the third workout from Week 5. It was quite a challenge but I’m glad I did it. Roll on Monday – a new week and a chance to recover with my first drop in weekly mileage this year.
