Running MusicI wasn’t having a bad day, but I was in the mood for running to Hella Sound’s “How To Turn Around A Bad Day”. I also decided to try the Newton Racers on an extended run and see how they performed.
The weather was beautiful – high 70s and sunny – and made for an almost perfect run. The only downer was the 20mph blustery wind (again). Once again the Newtons were great; I seem to be running with a shorter stride, but a much faster cadence – my feet hardly seem to touch the ground. The first mile was a 7:10 which considering the headwind was pretty good. Mile 2 (still into the wind) was a lot quicker at 6 minutes 26 seconds.
By now I was very much in the groove – enjoying the custom music and loving the shoes. The third and fourth miles were pretty consistent – 6:05 and 6:04 – and at this point in the run I decided to ease off for the two mile jog home. To be honest, the high temperature was a surprise and I found myself quite thirsty – no point in killing myself for another couple of miles.
So, a solid run, no discomfort and a few more miles to “break into the shoe”. Note to prospective buyers, you don’t break in Newton shoes, you break into them…
Stats: 6 miles in 39:41 (6:36/mile pace)
Tonight I’m just relaxing, resting the legs and looking forward to another 5k in the morning – this time it’s the Lions Journey for Sight 5k at Fort Story, Virginia Beach. Last year I finished 3rd overall in 17:46 – I wonder if I can improve on that tomorrow?
Wish!! Great times dude!! Do you have some krnusn blood in your veins or what?? I guess you will do better on your 5k tomorrow!!
Hey Steve, just checked the results… congratulations on a great race!!
