Week in Review – w/c 5/7/12

Quick recap of last week’s training:

  • Monday – short 1.5 mile morning stroll, followed by a 5 mile easy lunch time run. No issues – just trying to start building a base.
  • Tuesday – 1 mile morning stroll which turned into a rare 5 mile pre-work run. Felt good, so ran another 4 miles during lunch – an enjoyable progressive at an average 6:44 pace. Unheard of for me in recent times!
  • Wednesday – 5 easy miles. More base building.
  • Thursday – managed to squeeze in a 4 miler before meeting up with the family. Not fast, but felt great.
  • Friday – took off fairly early for 4 miles in Sandbridge. Legs felt good as I managed to record an average 6:10 per mile pace, with a closing 5:52 mile. Unexpected confidence booster! Cooled down with a couple more miles in the breeze along Sandpiper Road.
  • Saturday – decided to hit the track for 16 x 100m strides, but have to be honest, the legs felt tired. Warm up and cool down were a chore and I was glad to be done.
  • Sunday – needed the miles, so headed out for a 13 miler. Legs felt okay through 8, but suffered with a sore groin on the way back home. Happy with the 7:07 per mile average pace, but the effort level was far too high. It’s obvious I have work to do after missing so many key workouts this year. Ah well, it is what it is.

Not a bad week if truth be told – 47.5 miles in total, some of which were good quality. Sunday evening was spent aggressively icing the area in question, and I’m hoping the tenderness doesn’t develop into another issue and potential setback. Plans for next week include a [roughly] 10% increase in mileage (groin permitting), some mid-week faster paced running and a potential local 5k in Norfolk, VA. I’m definitely ready to turn the corner and start putting some solid weeks together. Until next week, Run Happy and Be Your Best!
