Not too much to report this week, aside from a ton of post-50-Miler recovery. Monday to Thursday included no running, but 4 morning walks of 1.5 miles each. The quads were quite sore on Monday, but felt good enough by the end of the week to attempt a run.
The Friday 5 mile luncher run was hot, but enjoyable, thanks in part to breaking out a pair of new Brooks PureConnect shoes. First impressions are promising – nice and light (just over 7oz for my size 9.5), comfortable 4mm heel-toe offset and an open mesh upper. My only slightly negative comment would be the width of the shoe; little toes in both feet felt a bit jammed in, but maybe a slightly thinner sock will make a difference next time? We’ll see…
Saturday morning I headed to First Landing State Park to log a double digit run. 13 miles at a comfortable 7:40/mile pace was plenty long enough for a recovery week, so after an out-and-back along the main trail, I headed back to Final Kick to wait for Ally and stretch, chug down some Recoverite and change into some dry clothes. Enjoyable start to the day!
Today was just another mid-day 5 miles – slightly faster than Friday, but still well within my limits. Now the plan is to take things easy and recover fully for the next 2 to 3 weeks before ramping up the mileage and/or intensity. Lots of goals between now and the end of the year so I want to be rested and raring to go. Exciting times!
